Near the boss is a prisoner of some powerful race (angels are good to use here). ![]() The PCs enter the structure and see a big-bad boss guy guarding whatever Macguffin the PCs are currently seeking. After a few moments of trying the voice will give up in despair and the barrier will go away. They cannot successfully answer the question. The PCs will be baffled and probably think this is some kind of riddle. "Help me, stalwart adventurers! I am trapped, compelled to act in evil ways. They are stopped just outside the temple by a barrier and a voice. My players also (usually :-) ) find this trick fun if it's not overdone since it lets them "legally metagame". The major advantage is that you get to save yourself a lot of prep time. All of these are great devices for one of my favorite tricks: the Deja Vu encounter.ĭeja Vu encoutners are when you run the PCs through a series of events that they've experienced before, but with a small twist.
